Third delivery of the report on the Aconcagua routes. We go from Nido de Cóndores to Berlin (5,930 m) and Cholera (5,970 m).
This section is much shorter than the previous one but we must take into account the effects of the altitude, which at this altitude causes quite a stir. The pace becomes decidedly slower.
The path continues ascending towards the East, until it gains a series of zig zags that join different rocky promontories. The view to the North becomes increasingly spectacular as we leave most of the nearby peaks behind. You thus reach another distinctive point on the route, the “yellow balcony” (5,800 m), an aesthetic rock formation that invites you to a well-deserved rest before the last effort.
This is how you get to Berlin (5,930 m). Here there are three small shelters on the first platform, all built in the 1950s. They are poorly maintained and it is not advisable to keep them in mind for spending the night. I recommend taking the store.
A little further up appears the new Berlin, a beautiful gabled shelter with capacity for 6 to 8 people. Like the previous ones, this refuge is usually very crowded during the season, so it is advisable not to keep them in mind when spending the night. In any case, on both platforms there are several places to set up stores.
